About Damai Abode

A Residence Built on Belonging

We started Damai Abode because we believe later life deserves more than management — it deserves community, purpose, and a beautiful place to be.

Our Story

How Damai Abode Came to Be

Damai Abode began with a straightforward observation: too many seniors in Sabah were living out their later years in settings that were functional but joyless. Family members wanted something better but weren't sure where to look.

We set out to create something different — a residence shaped by Sabah's landscape, its people, and the warmth of genuine community. The building sits along Jalan Penampang, close enough to Kota Kinabalu's amenities but surrounded by the greenery and birdsong that makes this part of Sabah so distinctive.

Since opening, we have welcomed residents from across Malaysia and have worked to build a community where people genuinely know and care for one another. Residents help tend the garden. Staff remember birthdays. Families are part of the fabric here, not occasional visitors.

Our Mission

"To create a home where seniors in Sabah feel connected to nature, to culture, and to the people around them — at every stage of later life."

What We Stand For

Our Values

Connection to Nature

Sabah's natural environment is not a backdrop here — it is part of daily life. Gardens, excursions, and outdoor spaces are woven into the rhythm of the residence.

Dignity & Respect

Every resident has their own history, preferences, and ways of doing things. We organise the residence around people's individuality, not the other way around.

Genuine Community

We believe good relationships are a form of care in themselves. Activities, shared meals, and cultural evenings are designed to build real friendships.

Cultural Rootedness

Sabah is one of Malaysia's most culturally rich regions. We celebrate Kadazan-Dusun heritage, traditional craft, local cuisine, and seasonal festivals as part of who we are.

The People Here

Our Team

A small, committed group of people who have chosen to make senior living their life's work — not just their occupation.

How We Operate

Our Standards

The day-to-day running of Damai Abode is guided by clear principles around safety, food quality, privacy, and community wellbeing.

Resident Safety

Daytime staff presence, clear emergency protocols, accessible premises, and regular safety reviews ensure that residents feel comfortable and secure throughout the day.

Food Quality & Hygiene

All meals are prepared in a fully equipped, regularly inspected kitchen. Ingredients are sourced locally where possible, and dietary requirements are accommodated as a matter of course.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Resident information is handled with care. We do not share personal details with third parties outside of what is necessary for daily operations, and residents have control over their own information.

Housekeeping Standards

Communal and private spaces are maintained to a high standard. Housekeeping schedules are regular and residents are always consulted before staff enter their personal rooms.

Resident Wellbeing Reviews

Each resident's experience is reviewed periodically with both the resident and, where appropriate, family members. We want to know what is working well and where we can do better.

Environmental Responsibility

From composting kitchen waste to the community garden, we try to run Damai Abode in a way that respects Sabah's natural environment — the same environment that makes this place special.

Senior Living in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Kota Kinabalu sits at the edge of one of the world's great biodiversity zones, with the Crocker Range and the foothills of Mount Kinabalu within view on a clear morning. For seniors who have spent decades building their lives in Sabah, the idea of spending later years far from that landscape — or from the foods, languages, and cultural rhythms of this place — carries real weight.

Damai Abode exists because of that understanding. Senior living in this part of Malaysia means honouring the deep connections people have with Bornean nature, with the Kadazan-Dusun and broader Sabahan heritage, and with the close-knit community fabric of this city.

Our residence at 13 Jalan Penampang is accessible from the city centre and within reach of major healthcare providers, while maintaining the garden atmosphere and quieter pace that make daily life here genuinely restful. Families from Kota Kinabalu and further afield trust us because we take the time to understand what each resident values most.

Come and See for Yourself

The best way to understand Damai Abode is to walk through the garden and meet the people here. We welcome enquiries and visits from seniors and families alike.
